Solving Equations with Number Properties

This lesson is adapted from the Engage NY/Eureka Math Curriculum for Algebra 1, Module 1, Lesson 12. Students will learn that the addition and multiplication properties of equality do not change the solution set of an equation. In middle school these properties are referred to as if-then moves in this curriculum. Additionally, the commutative and distributive properties do not change the solution set to an equation.
