Modeling Perimeter and Area

Show students the overlay graphs, and talk about how the actual graphs compare to their predictions. Talk about how to generalize the length, perimeter and area in terms of width. Graph the equations and show students that the curve hits their points. Ask students for ideas about how to make the expression on the right of the equation smaller (simplier). Equations: Length: y=x+4 Perimeter: y=(x)+(x+4)+(x)+(x+4) area: y=x(x+4)
