Random Rectangles
This activity allows students to explore the significance of random sampling. Students begin by making a quick estimate of the average area, to finding the average area based on a sample of their choosing, and then finally to calculating the average area of randomly chosen rectangles. Students also explore the effect of sample size on sampling variance.
