{TEMPLATE} Beginning & Ending Screens
These are a few screens I use to start and end my Desmos activities. Screen 1 - Directions screen. I include the graphic of the name of the activity and try to provide detailed directions to help guide the activity. The cute emoji direction idea for assignments came from @TypeAMathLand on Twitter as she shared how she uses them in Google Classroom. Typically I pace students to this screen so when they first login they need to read it before I stop the pacing and open the activity. Screen 2 - I need help! This fantastic screen came from @Teachmathtorr on Twitter. This is perfect for remote/distance learning! When a student clicks the help button, the warning symbol pops up in the teacher dashboard to alert you at the same time it tells the student you are on the way and asks them what they need help with in the text input box. If a student clicks on the help button again, it resets that screen. If you teach your students that this is always screen 2 in your activities, they know where they can come to get help if needed and as many times as needed during the activity if you have them reset that screen after you provide help. Screen 3 - Did you prepare for this activity? This screen came from @JoeGro on Twitter. I didn't realize I needed it until I saw it. It is perfect since I flip my classroom and students are to watch the lesson & take notes before completing the activity. And the gifs are fun. :) Screen 4 - Respond to feedback and/or ask questions. This screen would be at the end of your activity. The feedback image came from @kfouss on Twitter. Students are reminded to check for feedback and respond if they need to or ask a question. If they choose either option, then the teacher dashboard is marked with a dot. But if they choose the second option (I have a question) a text input will pop up for them to leave a response, when they type in the text input box the teacher dashboard is marked with the error warning telling me there is something to respond to on that screen. With so many students, this is SUPER helpful so I know which students left something written on that screen. Then I can respond with feedback in Desmos, or reach out to that student directly. Screen 5 - Have you completed the activity? I have found asking the students if they are done with an activity helps them make sure they have completed all screens. This screen outline came from @MeganHeine on Twitter. If students choose YES, it shows the checkmark bitmoji and tells them to move to the next screen. If they choose NO, it shows the stop bitmoji and tells them to go back and finish the activity. If they choose YES, the teacher dashboard shows a checkmark, if they choose NO, the teacher dashboard shows an x. (To change the this screen to have your bitmoji...add two image buttons from the left. Click on the bitmoji add on and right click and SAVE IMAGE AS on the bitmoji you want to use. (Search STOP and YES for the ones I used). Save somewhere on your computer. Then insert your two bitmojis into the two image spots you created. THEN go to my YES bitmoji under </> and copy the code to your YES bitmoji and same for the NO.) Screen 6 - Submit your work! My students ALWAYS ask how to submit their work in Desmos, so I made this screen to make them feel like their work was submitted. :) It asks them to share their current level of understanding. Then they click the Submit my Work button and get a message in red that says "Thank you! You may exit Desmos now." The teacher dashboard will show a checkmark when they choose their level AND press the button. It will show an X if they only choose their level and it won't show anything if they just submit without choosing a level.
