The Wandering Point

This activity is inspired by one with the same name from the resources accompanying the Bock, Velleman, De Veaux textbook Stats: Modeling the World. In this activity, students will investigate what impacts on the correlation coefficient and line of best fit that different types of outliers in a scatterplot will have. They will be introduced to the terms leverage, model outlier, and influential point. Note: The vocabulary of this activity has been updated to reflect the language used in the Fall, 2019 AP Stats CED The term extrapolation was added to end of these slides by Jared Derksen.
