The Correlation Coefficient (r)
In this activity, students see that knowing the value of the correlation coefficient is only useful if you also know the graph is linear. The last graph demonstrates the extreme influence outliers have. This measure of correlation is not very robust, and can be anything with an extreme enough value. As a student once put it: "a single point can have a very large effect on correlation".
