Summarize and describe distributions. Mathematics Assessment Resource Service University of Nottingham & UC Berkeley For more details, visit: http://map.mathshell.org This task has 3 parts: 1. pre-assessment (not graded) 2. matching and ordering task (done with partner, consider not grading it or give credit for completion) 3. assessment (graded) The full PDF of this lesson with instructional support: https://www.map.mathshell.org/download.php?fileid=1619 This is my normal routine for a MARS task like this, about 3 class periods (most of it is devoted to part 2): - assign pre-assessment in class, set timer for 15 minutes, emphasize that it's not graded, no worries if not finished - immediately go into part 2, the matching and ordering task, randomly assign students in groups of 2 or 3 - go over the task as a whole class, facilitate class discussion - go over the pre-assessment as a whole class, facilitate class discussion - assign part 3, the assessment - based on how students did on the assessment, consider next steps
