Prize Wheel Puzzle: Expected Value (Financial Algebra 10.2)
In this activity, students explore the concept of expected value by spinning a prize wheel. This activity is an introduction to expected value, so students do not need prior knowledge of it. Students build their understanding of expected value by observing the results of multiple spins and deciding how much they would pay to spin the prize wheel. As they compare the outcome of 1 spin, 25 spins, and all the class spins combined, you can facilitate a discussion about experimental vs theoretical probability. This activity is a part of NGPF's free Financial Algebra course (Lesson FA-10.2).
