Introduction to Rhythm: Whole, Halves, Thirds, Quarters
This lesson is designed for the teacher to present at the front of the room. Students are not on devices. In this lesson for all ages, students learn about how to perform basic musical counting. Inherent in this lesson are the ideas that 4 big beats can make up 1 bar of music, and you can divide the big beats into smaller beats that fit inside of them. This lesson can serve as both an introduction to fractions, without using the word fractions, and as an introduction to musical counting which can form the basis for developing a mental timeline to track and work with time-based events.
