Listening To Ratios: Area Models

In this activity, students continue to explore area taking up a given amount of time. Here we also introduce pitch: the bigger the area, the lower the pitch will start. When a note plays, it slides up from a starting note to an ending note. Using this method, you can compare two areas, and make them the same by moving their parts around; construct and deconstruct areas, then summarize them with addition and multiplication; and make little melodies with areas of different configurations.
