Many Measurements

Students apply prior knowledge about different units of measurement, what they measure, and their relative sizes.  This lesson is optional as it addresses standards from a prior course, supporting students in surfacing prior knowledge.

Today’s Goals • Determine whether a certain unit measures length, area, time, weight, or volume. • Compare the relative size of different units of measure for one attribute (i.e., length, volume, weight or mass). • Describe everyday objects using units of measure. (Speaking and Listening) Additional Materials Activity 1 Cards, one set per pair, pre-cut; Activity 2 Cards, one set per pair, pre-cut; classroom items that represent measurements, such as a centimeter, an ounce, a cup, etc. (as needed)
