Area Challenges

Students apply the area formula to solve problems involving the area of circles, as well as the area of shapes composed of parts of circles and squares.  This lesson is optional as it addresses standards already thoroughly covered in other lessons within this unit.

Today’s Goals • Calculate the area of a complex shape composed of squares and fractions of circles. • Write area as an expression that includes `\pi`, such as `20\pi+50`. • Explain how to write an expression to represent the area of a complex shape with circular parts. (Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening)
