Science

Today’s Goals • Students will explore how the angle of incidence of the sun on Earth is caused by the tilt of Earth in its orbit around the sun. • Student will explore that the smaller the angle sunlight is when it hits Earth’s surface the warmer the season. • Students will explore a higher angle of incidence means sunlight is spread over a larger area, and therefore the heat is less intense. • Language Goal: Students will discuss their observations from the activity with their classmates to develop their claims. (Speaking and Listening) Duration • This Bite Sized Science Moment takes about 15–20 minutes and can be used in or outside of a Science block. It is designed to be flexibly implemented in your day! Standards • Next Generation Science Standards: SEP-2, SEP-4, SEP-5, CCC-1, CCC-2, CCC-4 See At a Glance for Materials and Prep Checklist.
