How Likely?

Students use phrases such as “likely” and “equally likely as not” to describe the likelihood of different events. This lesson is optional as it addresses standards that will be explored in greater depth in upcoming lessons.

(Reading and Writing) • Explain how experiments can help determine the likelihood of future events. (Writing) Additional Materials Activity 1 Sheet, one per two groups, pre-cut; coins, two different types (e.g., pennies and nickels); containers for paper letters (e.g., bags, bowls, or cups); number cubes; paper clips for spinners
