MTC4SJ - From Infection Rates to Policy Debates: Mathematics in the Vaccine Conversation

In this session, we explore quantitative aspects of infectious diseases - such as contagiousness, fatality rate, number of sufferers, and vaccine effectiveness - and use tools to model the spread of disease. From these activities, we develop new insights into how the spread of disease can inform our individual decision-making and our collective advocacy, ultimately asking under what conditions should a department of public health recommend or mandate a vaccine? We consider the impact on individuals and groups.
