Cal is a constant kind of guy. He likes to move, think, and act in a steady, constant kind of way. Irene is quite the opposite. Her only constant is that she seems to be constantly changing. This is an activity for the first week of AP Calculus that helps students navigate average rate of change and instantaneous rate of change in the context of position and velocity. Seeds are planted here to establish the instantaneous rate of change as the limit when we bring points closer together on a graph.
