UK | AS/A Level Mathematics (Pure)
Our friends Tom Button and Natalie Vernon from MEI have selected these activities in accordance with AS/A level requirements (Pure) for England. If you are looking for other activities for the English curriculum, check out this collection.
Quadratic Functions
See the full Desmos Quadratic Collection. Activities in this collection will help students develop their understanding of quadratic functions as tables, graphs, and equations.
Coordinate Geometry
- Circle Patterns
Trigonometry
- Trigonometric Graphing: Introduction to Amplitude and Vertical Shift (degrees)
Polynomials
- Polygraph: Polynomials
- Constructing Polynomials
Graphs and Transformations
In the first two activities, students informally describe transformations, which helps them develop their understanding of the core concepts of algebra. In the final three activities, students get precise in using algebraic symbols to describe the stretching, sliding, and reflecting that transforms one graph into another. See the full Desmos Transformations Collection.
- Polygraph: Transformations
- Card Sort: Transformations
- What's My Transformation?
- Marbleslides: Parabolas
- Blue Point Rule
Differentiation
- Functions and Their Derivatives
- Sketchy Derivatives
- Card Sort: Derivative Match
Exponentials and Logarithms
In the first three activities, students are introduced to the concept of exponentials. The middle four activities are for deepening students' analytical abilities. In the final three activities, students model and make predictions using exponential functions. See the full Desmos Exponential Functions Collection.
