Grade 6 Math Lessons
Students learn about area, ratios, and percentages in real world contexts. They'll divide fractions, solve equations with decimals, and more with lessons from our complete, standards-aligned math program, Amplify Desmos Math.
Grades: 6th Grade

Area and Surface Area
Students develop strategies for calculating the areas of parallelograms, triangles, and polygons, including generalizing and using formulas.
- Letters
- Shapes on a Plane
- Exploring Parallelograms, Part 1
- Exploring Parallelograms, Part 2
- Off the Grid, Part 1
- Exploring Triangles
- Off the Grid, Part 2
- Triangles and Parallelograms
- Pile of Polygons
- Renata's Stickers
Introducing Ratios
Students learn what ratios are, how to describe them, and how to generate equivalent ratios. They’ll solve real-world problems using ratio tables.
- Pizza Maker
- Fruit Lab
- Disaster Preparation
Unit Rates and Percentages
Students apply prior knowledge about different units of measurement, recognize ratio relationships have two unit rates, and use those unit rates to solve problems involving tables of equivalent ratios.
- Many Measurements
- World Records
- Model Trains
- Soft Serve
- Welcome to the Robot Factory
- More Soft Serve
- Lucky Duckies
Dividing Fractions
Students use real-world problems to reason about what it means to divide by a fraction, calculate quotients of two fractions, and solve problems about areas and volumes with dimensions that are fractions.
- Flour Planner
- Fill the Gap
- Puzzling Areas
Decimal Arithmetic
Students reason, estimate, and make calculations with decimals, including dividing decimals.
- Dishing Out Decimals
- Decimal Diagrams and Algorithms
- Movie Time
Expressions and Equations
Students write and solve equations with unknown values, develop fluency solving equations that include decimals and fractions, and use tables, graphs, and equations to interpret relationships.
- Weight for It
- Five Equations
- Hanging Around
- Hanging It Up
- Swap and Solve
- Products and Sums
- Subway Fares
Positive and Negative Numbers
Students are introduced to negative numbers, comparing positive and negative numbers, and graphing inequalities on a number line.
- Can You Dig It?
- Order in the Class
- Tunnel Travels
Describing Data
Students answer statistical questions and analyze dot plots and histograms. They’re introduced to the mean and calculate the mean absolute deviation of a data set, as well as to a second way to measure center–the median.
- Minimum Wage
- The Plot Thickens
- Hoops
- Toy Cars
